December Reviews

Unit 187 - Stillborn
21st Circuitry - 9trk CDs
Heavy mixes of singles off the the full length Loaded CD. Very heavy and dancefloor oriented. Some interesting interpretations. Overall good to get and play loud. 40 minutes of music at a low price.

Information Society - Don't Be Afraid
Cleopatra - 9 trk CD + CD Rom
Wow! A band from the 80's that has made the impact in the 90's. Definately something cool. A fast paced CD filled with variety and good sound. A little elctronic style like but still Dark. A great surprise and a definate uplift.

PRI - The Power of Pure Intellect
Cleopatra - 9 trk CD
Orginally signed to Zoth, licencsed in North America by Cleopatra. Interesting that this band is from Zoth as it is not a typical release in the "industrial" style format. Definately "electronica" oriented. Very much like a Underworld CD.

Crash A/D - Thermal System
Escalation Records - 10 trk CD
Rough grunting vocals on this CD. A few catchy songs with some impact. For the most part there is not enogh layering and the vocals seem too upfront. Nothing too upbeat, but not necessarily the downfall of the Cd.

Funker Vogt - We Came To Kill
Metropolis - 11 trk CD
Fast, heavy, hard, darkfloor music which hits you and knocks you down. A very enjoyable CD. The only thing it lacks is variety. 90% of the songs, though exceptional are similar in style and remain consistent throughout the whole CD. Definately one of the best releases this year.

Mainesthai - Out to Lunch
Metropolis - 13 trk CD
Very Skinny Puppy like experimantal. There are only a couple of tracks I found appealing. Nothing overwhelming. To much like a a bad Puppy project.

Download - III
Nettwerk - 12 trk CD
Minimal Keyboard music. Lacking in some aspects. Like to compare it to an industrial Daft Punk, for lack of words. Honestly a little dissappointing compared to the last releases. Seems to be missing some aggression or strength. Repetitive and monotonous

Various - Drug Test Three
Invisible - 13 trk CD
Quite the variety. This compilation is 3rd in the series from invisible. It contains everything from hard techno sound to dark ambient. All based around the synth sounds. A very cool comp especially if you want to discover what's on this label.

The Way Sect Bloom - EfFLoRescE Flaming Fish Music - 10 trk CD
Growling vocals with steady music. A mix of sounds, but a bit minimal in sound. Not a bad CD. Nothing too spectacular or ear grabbing.

Frontline Assembly - Columbian Necktie
Metropolis - 4trk CDS

Very electronic, Very up tempo, but very typical of FLA. The remix is quite good. No guitars, FLA have regressed in a way, going back to the older sounds, not a bad thing, just a different view. A good modern sound.

Frontline Assembly - FLAvour of the Weak
Metropolis - 8trk CD
Full length CD from FLA. Honestly a bit of a dissappointment. Not as good as the single. A couple of songs stand out but for the most part the rest of the CD is typically FLA style. Electronic based, no guitars. The stlye of FLA reemerges from the past.

Collide - Distort
Re-Constriction - 14 trk CD
This CD is basically a remix Cd containing a few tracks which were released on compilations and tributes exclusively. A perfect blend of haunting vocals and heavy darkfloor. Definately one to get. The remixes have a better quality of production sound and rather than take away from the originals, which often is the case for Remixed CDs, there are often improvements. An exceptional CD from an exceptional band.

Waiting for God - Desipramine
Re-Constriction - 10 trk CD
Female vocals combined with heavy electronics, Waiting for God comes out with a new full length CD. Vocally it is strong, loud and at times angry and aggressive. Raw vocals mixed with digital electronics.
