January Reviews

Ikon - A Moment In Time
Metropolis - 14 trk CD
A typical release by Ikon. Vocals similar in style to that of the late Ian Curtis. This cd is not as gothy, a bit more upbeat then other releases. Still a prretty sudued sound. Will definately appeal to the gothy side of Darkfloor nature.

Dark Illumination - Realize the Error
Metropolis - 11 trk CD
A very strong release. Very comparable to Haujobb, Forma Tadre style, maybe even too much. Slow electronic rythms which creep on you. Definately something to check out.

Killing Floor - Come Together
Reconstriction Records - 5 track CDS
Heavy vocals and guitars. More rocking then darkfloor. A bit too guitary for my liking. Includes two mixes of "About to Break", one by Alien Faktor and a Christ Analogue mix of "Wood". Also contains a 20 second humorous excerpt as track 6. Overall the Cds is not my style but will appeal to Killing Floor fans as it is just as hard as their other material if not more.

New Mind - Forge
21st Circuitry Records - 12 track CD
A harder edge to the New CD by New Mind. A lot less ambient and more aggressive. A bit of guitars blended with the harsh vocals. Also contains a remix of "Providence" by Xorcist. This CD contains a variety of different songs, from heavy to ambient and fast to more mellow.

Various - Coldwave Breaks II
21st Circuitry Records - 14 track CD
This compilation is the second in the series, unfortuneatley it doesn't meet the same status as the prior compilation. This CD is very guitar based and many tracks seem to harsh as a "darkfloor" style or "industrial" Many somgs do though overall the CD is more "industrial rock" styled.

Newt - -273C
Quantum Loop - 10 track CD
This CD is more of a techno influence CD then most. Newt is a collaboration of Haujobb and Forma Tadre. The CD is not a power explosive loud dancefloor type. It is very minimal, moreso a building up to climax type songs with great layering and digital sounds. Ambient but still heavy.

Various - Dark Techno-One/Nine-Nine
Quantum Loop - 13 track CD
This CD's title is right on the nose. Various mixes adn bands which a re electronic based but not your typical Rave style techo. A good variety containing Covenant, Newt, Vlack Lung, Soma, and much more. A good representation where Quantum Loop is going.

C-Tec - Darker
TVT/Wax Trax Records - 9 track CD
This band formally known as Cyber Tec has brough a new dimension to the Darkfloor era. It has been a very long time since I've been so captured by a release. Definately something to get. Contains variety, good sound, and mood.

Course of Empire - Telepathic Last Words
TVT/Wax Trax Records - 13 track CDbr> This Cd did not impress me very much. It seem to stray from the "darkfloor" sound. It was a little too guitary, a little punkish and rocker like.

Various - Big Rock'n Beats
TVT/Wax Trax Records - 13 track CD
This Cd is more of an electronica collection, though what's great about this compilation is the fact there are no sell out bands here to sell this record. It contains good solid material from various bands which are on their way up in the scene.

Individual Totem - Mind and the Sculptures Flesh
Pendragon Records - 11 track CD
A New CD from a rising band in the industrial scene. Very cool sounds in this CD and good production. Not all songs are "dancefloor hits", but I don't think this band is catering solely to this side anyway.
